2002 Single Vineyard Limited Merlot
Tasting notes
Typical browning but still predominantly youthful in appearance. The aromatics support the visual. Aromas are of soft, rounded red and dark fruits, slightly sweet white pepper, with hints of toffee, butterscotch, nutmeg, cedar and cigar box. The palate is full with rounded red and plum fruit, pencil shavings and leather
Production notes
The wine was aged 17 months in 100% new French Oak
Other notes
Harvest Notes: Very hot followed by cold, wet windy temperatures during bloom and set caused uneven set. Combine this with a typically warm summer and ideal extended fall ripening conditions of warm days and cool nights and the result is a somewhat unusual combination of generally higher sugars and acidity and lower pH in the grapes. Thus the wines tend to have higher alcohol but crisp acids and great complexity in flavor and aroma. A challenging but ultimately great vintage for those patient enough to let the grapes achieve optimum maturity.
