2005 Hedges Family Estate Single Vineyard Limited Syrah
Tasting notes
Dark, almost black color. Beautiful, intense dried blueberry and blackberry fruit with interesting herbal and floral notes. Spice, toast and hints of vanilla from the oak. Medium body, nice acid, dark fruit, spice, vanilla and toast in the mouth. This is a more elegant Syrah, with high intensity aromatics while being lighter in terms of mouthfeel but with the typically wonderful tannins.
Production notes
Grapes are from Bel’ Villa Estate Vineyard. Aged 8 months in 38% American and 62% French Oak. 75% new oak.
Other notes
Harvest Notes: 2005 was a banner year in the vineyards. Mostly even temperatures and little wind and rain during bloom made for nice set. The summer was hot, but not too hot, and typical fall ripening conditions of warm days (80-85) and cool nights (45-50) began in mid-September and continued through October. Our philosophy of picking at optimum flavor maturity led us to pick this higher elevation Syrah at our warmer Red Mountain site the third week of September. Another great vintage from Red Mountain
