2008 SINGLE VINEYARD LIMITED MALBEC
Tasting notes
Dark purple color. Aromas of dark ripe blackberry and plum, toast and bubblegum, with underlying tones of black cherry cola, vanilla, menthol, smoke and dried herbs. The palate is medium full bodied and very slightly tart with a soft entry, good mid-palate volume and long, very slightly astringent finish. The flavors are of dark fruit with slight notes of toast and dried herbs.
Production notes
Grapes are 100% Red Mountain AVA from Hedges Estate Vineyard’s North and South Vertical Shoot Positioned Block and High Density Head Pruned Blocks. This wine was cold soaked overnight then inoculated with yeast, fermented for 4 to 7 days on skins while being pumped over twice daily or punched down three times daily before pressing to barrels. The wine was inoculated with M-L bacteria at dryness and completed M-L fermentation in barrel. The wine was 100% barrel aged for an average of 14 months in 1/3 new/2/3 older oak consisting of 67% French and 33% American.
Other notes
Harvest Notes: 2008 was a cooler year beginning in the spring and continuing through the summer. This delayed bud break and consequently harvest, which began about 5 to 10 days later than normal. Fall, however, was typically great. Warm days and cool nights gave the fruit enough time to ripen thoroughly and evenly ensuring great color and enough tannins for longer aging.
