2019 DLD Le Rosé
Tasting notes
Brilliant coral color. Right away you get a sense of mandarin zest and orange oil, with a touch of tropical fruit and candied melon. A hint of rose petal and a light hint of spearmint creates interest in this light and fruity, yet complex rosé. Bright acidity dances on the palate in a lively way followed by a long and almost creamy finish. These grapes were picked very early at an average brix of 21 resulting in a 12.5% alcohol content.
Production notes
Grapes are from Les Gosses and Red Heaven vineyards. Crushed and pressed on 9/4/18 the grapes were co-fermented at a low temperature until it reached dryness on 10/9.
Cellaring: For optimum fruit flavors and aromas, drink now. The higher acid in this wine should keep it drinking well for a few years.
Other notes
Harvest notes: 2019 threw a few surprises when it came to the weather! After 2+ months of snow starting in Mid-February, the summer stayed mild. We were a bit behind going into veraison and the ripening period of September, which was a cold month. We traded our usual Indian summer and warm fall for a chilly September and a freeze on October 10th and 11th that hit a lot of areas pretty hard. Luckily with our early pick philosophy and intuition of picking based on flavors instead of numbers, it put us ahead of the curve and we had everything in before the freeze. Overall, 2019 is proving to be a cooler Washington state vintage, with wines that are showing a lot of balance and restraint.
