2019 Descendants Liegeois Dupont - Le Blanc
Tasting notes
Golden straw color. Fresh peaches, honeysuckle, mixed citrus zest and a touch of almond croissant and vanilla. Tart and lush, full of sweet fresh fruit, apricot jam, toasted almonds and a mineral backbone, this wine is both refreshing and fulfilling. Light enough to sip on the patio, yet bold enough to pair with a flavorful meal.
Production notes
Grapes are from Les Gosses and Hedges Estate vineyards. Crushed on 10/11/19 and foot stomped by our wine club! It was then pressed to 2 Baron French oak Medium Long toast barrels, 2 Damy M+ French oak barrels, 2 Tremeaux M+ French oak blonde barrels and 10 stainless steel barrels. Fermentation finished on 10/29. The oak barrels went through malo-lactic fermentation while stirring lees every three days for 2 weeks. Wine stayed in barrel until bottling.
Other notes
2019 threw us for a few surprises when it came to the weather! After 2+ months of snow starting in Mid-February it never quite got hot. We were a bit behind going into veraison and the ripening period of September, which was a cold month. We traded our usual Indian summer and warm fall with a chilly September and a freeze on October 10th and 11th that hit a lot of areas pretty hard. Luckily with our early pick philosophy and intuition of picking based on flavors instead of numbers put us ahead of the curve and we had everything in before the freeze. Overall, 2019 is proving to be a classic Washington state vintage, with wines that are showing a lot of balance and restraint that will only become more complex and improve with time.
