Aroma / Flavor: black currant / plum / graphite / anise / boxwood / cinnamon / vanilla
Texture: full / firm / bright
Cellaring: As with all Red Mountain red wines, it should age well, probably peaking in 15 years, but still a great wine even at 20-30 years old.
Grapes are from Hedges Estate Vineyard and Bel’ Villa Vineyard. This wine was cold soaked then allowed to ferment with indigenous yeast. It fermented for 11 days on skins while being pumped over twice daily before pressing to barrels, where it underwent indigenous malo-lactic fermentation. It was 100% barrel aged in 100% New French oak until bottling.
Harvest notes: 2023 started with a drier, mild spring, which resulted in slightly delayed bud break. Then the heat started in May and June and the grapes had a lot of growth. Everything was back on track for veraison, which happened in the last week of July, first week of August. We saw a nicely spread-out maturation and harvest period in September and October, which balanced yields. 2023 should prove to be a classic Washington State vintage, especially for Red Mountain.
