Production
The grapes were sourced from Columbia Valley AVA: Sagemoor, Wooded Island, and Hogue vineyards and Red Mountain AVA: Jolet, Bel' Villa, Les Gosses. The must was pumped over for 10 days and pressed to tank, where it underwent malo-lactic fermentation. The Columbia Valley portion of this wine was fermented to dryness on 100% American oak and aged for 5 months in a mix of French oak and neutral barrels. The Red Mountain AVA portion was 100% barrel aged for 20 months in 100% neutral American oak and French oak.
Harvest
2022 was a challenging year from spring through fall. We had snow in April and didn't see warm temperatures until early May. The heat was mild until we hit mid-August and saw temperatures over 100 deg for a couple of weeks! Everything was delayed including bud break, fruit set, and veraison, and we had a few extra weekends in September due to a late first day of harvest. All of the challenges were worth it, and we saw a bountiful and delicious crop. The crew worked until just before Thanksgiving and we managed to get all of our fruit in before the cold weather set in. The 2022 vintage made us really earn the fruits of our labor and we are starting to enjoy them.
