2008 Red Mountain
Dark purple-black color. Dark, concentrated fruit: black cherry, blackberry, cassis and plum jam. The fruit is seamlessly integrated with oak aromas of toast, smoke, cola, root beer, licorice, cinnamon and hints of meat, earth and butterscotch. Dark fruit flavors, full body, cinnamon-clove spice, toast, cola and smoked meat notes with plenty of structure and a long, slightly earthy finish and nice touch of acid.
Grapes are from Red Mountain AVA vineyards within a 2 mile radius of the winery: Hedges, Bel’ Villa, Red Mountain, Magdalena and Obelisco. This wine is 100% barrel aged for an average of 10 months in 50% new oak consisting of 65% American, 30% French and 5 % Hungarian.
Harvest Notes: 2008 was a cooler year beginning in the spring and continuing through the summer. This delayed bud break and consequently harvest, which began about 5 to 10 days later than normal. Fall, however, was typically great. Warm days and cool nights gave the fruit enough time to ripen thoroughly and evenly ensuring great color and enough tannins for longer aging potential.
