Production notes
Production: We always get excited to make the rosé. It’s typically our first pick of the year and signals the beginning of harvest! All of the grapes for this wine are picked intentionally early to accentuate the bright fruit character of these varieties. The brix ranged from 20.81-22.8, which would be too early for a red wine, but just right for rosé. All varieties were harvested on September 5th. We sent these grapes directly to the press and stopped the press when we had just the right touch of color from the skins. This wine fermented cold, around 58 degrees, so we could trap all of those lovely aroma esters. After fermentation completed, we lees stirred it for 4 days to get just a touch of creamy texture to balance the acidity. We bottled it as soon as it was finished and it’s ready to enjoy!
Other notes
Harvest Notes: 2023 started with a drier, mild spring, which resulted in slightly delayed bud break. Then, the heat started in May and June and the grapes had a lot of growth. Everything was back on track for veraison, which happened in the last week of July, first week of August. We saw a nicely spread-out maturation and harvest period in September and October, which balanced yields. 2023 should prove to be a classic Washington State vintage, especially for Red Mountain.
